World Ballet Day – 23rd October 2019

October 17, 2019

You might remember Michael Berkin from the workshop Hilary held last year. He shared information about World Ballet Day which might be interesting for you to watch. It will be a wonderful celebration of Ballet and give so much insight into training fulltime as a professional dancer. Do tune in if you have a chance and please encourage the young dancers to watch as well. Here is what Michael had to say on World Ballet Day below:

Dear Hilary,

There’s just 1 week to go until World Ballet Day 2019… To celebrate, we’re holding a World Ballet Day SALE at PDE Dance Supplies.

So what’s in store for us ballet lovers this World Ballet Day?…

This year there will be a record breaking 31 international ballet companies taking part including The Australian Ballet, The Bolshoi Ballet and of course The Royal Ballet.

Live streaming will be available to enjoy throughout the day, next Wednesday 23rd October. Here’s a few of our top picks that you won’t want to miss…

Firstly you can watch all of these UK companies LIVE on World Ballet Day:

Royal Ballet    11.00am-3.00pm
Birmingham Royal Ballet    3.00-3.30pm
English National Ballet    3.30-4.30pm
Northern Ballet    4.30-5.15pm
Scottish Ballet    5.15-6.00pm

The free online streaming can be viewed online on Facebook or Youtube (head on over to the Royal Opera House Youtube channel on the day at: https://www.youtube.com/royaloperahouse ) Or go to https://worldballetday.com/ for the full schedule and streaming.

If you enjoy watching the Royal Ballet’s daily training, this will be streamed live at 11am, followed by some fantastic rehearsal footage.

I’m personally looking forward to seeing the rehearsal footage of Kenneth MacMillan’s Concerto duet, and Frederick Ashton’s Enigma Variations, both of which can be seen in the Royal Ballet’s current triple bill. (I’m particularly excited as I’m treating my wife to a trip to the Royal Opera House to see the triple bill the weekend after World Ballet Day!)

There’s also some exciting plans under way that I was discussing with an old friend of mine from Birmingham Royal Ballet last weekend….

He’s in the process of recording a series of podcasts interviewing men from the world’s leading ballet companies to shine a light on what it’s really like to live, train and perform as a professional male ballet dancer in 2019.

I hope to be able to share the link to these podcasts with you on World Ballet Day, or shortly after (it’s been quite an undertaking for him to coordinate interviews from America, Russia and more!) so do keep an eye out for my emails in the coming weeks to make sure you don’t miss out.

We’ll also be sharing some exclusive ballet content, deals and more directly from PDE Dance Supplies next week…

In the mean time, don’t forget to take a look at our World Ballet Day Sale.

Best wishes,

Michael.
